Kia Rio and Stinger named segment winners in J.D. Power 2018...

Following the launch of the 2018 Rio and highly anticipated 2018 Stinger, Kia Motors America (KMA) has earned two more J.D. Power Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) awards for its stylish subcompact and its powerful fastback sports sedan. The double win helped increase Kia’s overall score by eight points since last year, while also securing the brand’s spot among the top 10 non-premium nameplates. The announcement follows Kia Motors being named the highest ranked mass market brand in J.D. Power Initial Quality Study for the fourth consecutive year , with the Rio also capturing a win in the small car segment.

For the fourth consecutive year, Kia was recognized as the number one non-premium brand by J.D. Power in the 2018 Initial Quality Study (IQS), with a reported 72 problems per 100 vehicles. Kia maintained its leadership position with segment-leading performances from the Sorento (Midsize SUV) and Rio (Small Car), while Optima (Midsize Car), Sportage (Small SUV) and Sedona (Minivan) placed second and the Forte (Compact Car) placed third in their respective categories. After winning IQS awards in 2015, 2016 and 2017, Soul was again the highest rated compact multi-purpose vehicle in the study.

Kia to launch new diesel 48V mild-hybrid powertrain in 2018

Kia Motors will introduce its first 48V diesel mild-hybrid powertrain in the second half of 2018. The new ‘EcoDynamics+’ powertrain reduces CO2 emissions by supplementing acceleration with electric power from an additional 48-volt battery and extending combustion engine ‘off time’ using a new Mild-Hybrid Starter-Generator unit.

Kia Motors Europe has appointed Emilio Herrera as its new Chief Operating Officer. He replaces Michael Cole, who is set to take up a senior role elsewhere in the global Kia Motors organisation. Mr. Herrera will be based at Kia’s European headquarters in Frankfurt, Germany, working alongside the company’s president, Mr. Yong Kew Park.
